Fairmount memorial contempt for Pines cemetery plots
Intentions abandoned from 2013 promises
The Pines cemetery is located in the Spokane valley. In 1907 the Opportunity Cemetery Association was established to serve the rural communities of the Spokane Valley. Pines Cemetery was dedicated in 1910 and started on the north side of 16th Avenue, on Pines road. In June of 2013 the Pines cemetery was purchased by Fairmount memorial association from the Opportunity cemetery association.

Neil Prescott, vice president of the Opportunity Cemetery Association: “ With their expertise and resources they will be able to do many of the things we had only hoped to accomplished, ” Prescott said. “ This change will be of real benefit to the Valley. ” There are plans to replace many of the trees at Pines and add trees to the cemetery at South Pines. They want to add a military memorial and an innocence statue dedicated to babies and children. And, the sprinkler system will be updated – during an inventory workers found old wooden water pipes in the irrigation system. Sunken grave markers will be raised. In the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, the trend in grave markers was flat markers. The general idea was that they would be easier or the groundskeepers to mow, but over time the markers tended to sink.
So, in 2023 what is the reality ? One example is the four headstones placed for my family and the surrounding area ( plat 8 & 9, Block 11, 3rd Addition ). I have created this simple website to document what it looks like in the summer of 2023. Understand that I will not be alive much longer to demand accountability from Fairmount. The website will live on, I have taken steps to ensure it is active to document the behavior of Fairmount. There is NO excuse for such abusive maintenance ! There is no excuse for such lack of lawn care ! In 2024 nothing has changed !
